Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2022: The goal of the day is to get the overseas Indian community more involved with the Indian government and to help them get in touch with their roots. Let’s look at what the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas and the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention are all about.
Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) 2022: It is held on January 9 to show how the Overseas Indian community has helped India grow and change. On this day in 1915, Mahatma Gandhi came back to India from South Africa. He was the most famous Pravasi. He was an important part of India’s fight for freedom, and he also made a big difference in the lives of Indians.
The Pravasi Bhartiya Divas convention is a great way for the government to talk to Indians who live in different parts of the world.
Every year since 2003, PBD conventions have been held. Since 2015, its format has been changed so that the PBD is only held every two years. In the years between, experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders from the overseas diaspora will attend PBD Conferences with different themes. PBD is a day to remember how the Overseas Indian community has helped India grow and change.
Let us tell you that the PBD Convention is the most important event put on by the Ministry of External Affairs and is a great way to meet and talk with Indians living abroad. The names of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardees for 2020-2021 were made public. The Awards were given to some members of the Indian diaspora to recognize their accomplishments and honor their work in many different fields, both in India and abroad.
Even though COVID-19 is still going around, the 16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention was held on January 9, 2021.
About the 2021 PBD Convention
The convention was held online, and “Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat” was the theme of the 16th PBD Convention 2021. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the PBD Convention, which was split into three parts. The President of the Republic of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, was also the Chief Guest and spoke at the event. Also, the winners of the online Bharat ko Janiye Quiz for young people were revealed.
After the first session, there were two Plenary sessions. The first was about the role of Diaspora Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The External Affairs Minister and the Commerce and Industry Minister were there to talk about it. The Minister of Health and the Minister of State for External Affairs spoke at the second session, which was about “Facing Post-Covid Challenges: Scenario in Health, Economy, Social and International Relations.”
At the Valedictory Session, which was the last part of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the President gave his Valedictory address.
Here to let you know that the Youth PBD was also celebrated virtually on January 8, 2021, with the theme “Bringing together Young Achievers from India and the Indian Diaspora.” The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports was in charge of the event. New Zealand’s Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector, Priyanka Radhakrishnan, was the event’s special guest.
In January 2019, it was held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, to honor the people of Indian descent who live outside of India and want to share their experience and knowledge to help the country grow.
Why has January 9 been chosen as NRI Day?
On January 9, 1915, Mahatma Gandhi moved to India from South Africa. He was the greatest Pravasi who led India’s Freedom Struggle and freed the country from British or colonial rule. Not only did he change the lives of Indians, but he also showed that if a person has clear goals and dreams, he or she can do anything. As a Non-Resident Indian, or Pravasi, he is seen as a sign of change and growth that India could experience.
The Indian government says that NRI has a global perspective on business and development strategies around the world. If they are given a chance, they will help their home country, India, grow and change by bringing their ideas and experiences back with them.
Do you know that the first Non-Resident Indian Day, or Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, was held on January 9, 2003? Since 2015, it has been changed so that the PBD is only celebrated every two years and PBD Conferences are based on a theme. Since then, it has been held once every two years. In 2019, Pravasi Bhartiya Divas was held on 21-23 January in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
NRI Day, or Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, is on January 20, 2021.
“Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat” was the theme of the 16th PBD Convention in 2021.
“Role of Indian Diaspora in Building a New India” was the theme of the 2019 PBD Convention.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, or NRI Day, will be on January 20, 2021.
The Convention of PBD was opened by Narendra Modi, who is the Prime Minister of India. The President of the Republic of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, was also the Chief Guest and spoke at the event.
The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, was the Convention’s most important guest. At the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 21, 2019, Mr. Himanshu Gulati, a member of Norway’s parliament, was the Special Guest, and Mr. Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, a member of New Zealand’s parliament, was the Guest of Honor.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) is the highest honor given to Indians living outside of India. As part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Conventions, which were held in 2003, the President of India gives out this award.
Note: A person of Indian descent or an organization or institution run by Non-Resident Indians or people of Indian descent who has made a big difference.
Some interesting things about PBD or NRI Day
- The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention took place mostly in New Delhi.
- – Regional Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is organised outside India. To give those in the Indian diaspora who can’t go to India for the main event a chance to meet each other. It has happened in eight different cities.
- In 2015, it was 100 years since Mahatma Gandhi came back to India. So, the 2015 PBD event was a symbolic one.
- – There’s no doubt that PBD is a big part of India’s growth. Because Indians who live in other countries will share what they have learned and what they have done.
- Most of the time, a foreigner is the Chief Host of the PBD.
- The Union Government celebrates PBD with a certain theme.
- As we’ve already talked about, PBD is no longer held every year since 2015.
- At the PBD convention, awards are given to the people who deserve them.
- The main goal of PBD is to bring together the Indian Diaspora.
- People celebrate PBD to remember when Mahatma Gandhi came back home.
So, we can say that Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, also known as NRI Day, is celebrated to bring together the Indian Diaspora, honor the accomplishments of people of Indian descent in their fields, and encourage them to bring their knowledge and skills back to their motherland.
